Gray Skinny Jeans and This Thing Called Life

Jeans are part of everyone’s wardrobe.  But there are a few pairs a denim that always seem to be on my must-have list.  I’ve shared boyfriend jeans and distressed ones – today’s post is about colored denim.

I always find myself grabbing these gray skinnys when I don’t feel like wearing blue jeans.  Sometimes blue jeans just don’t look right with the tops that I want to wear.  Plus, I think dressing up colored denim can be easier than it’s counterpart.

I took these pictures three weeks ago, and I’ve worn these gray jeans every weekend since.

Three weeks ago?

One thing that I’ve learned as a blogger is to have some extra posts in reserve for your rainy days.  ’Cause let’s face it – life happens.  And literally it has been rainy and/or gloomy for the past week.

Halloween Day was no exception.  The kids got dragged to two houses before I realized I was not about to punish them or myself anymore.

We went home, ate dinner, and played find-the-hidden-candy in the basement.  The combo of Easter egg-hunts and Halloween sweets was just what the kids needed.

And that’s how life has been recently – going with the flow while wearing gray skinnys and eating leftover candy.

Layering in 4 Steps

The earlier days of fall don’t usually require much besides some simple layering.  A little black dress starts things off…a floral kimono adds a bit of interest, and a denim jacket is so perfect for cooler temps.  Of course, I can’t resist letting my toes breathe for as long as possible…I’d wear open-toed shoes until the first snowfall if I could!

Wearing stretchy pants reminds me of when I was in junior high.  I loved wearing them with oversized t-shirts…and I’d even have those plastic t-shirt clips to get my shirt all bunched up on one side.  Oh, boy…having a major “I feel old” moment…

Before my mind goes elsewhere, the winner of the Before + Again item of choice goes to KIRA!!!  Kira, send me your email so we can get you your prize pronto.  (Sorry Kira, no plastic t-shirt clips come with the prize.)

Jean jackets are the black blazers of the casual world…they seem to work with everything!  I’m always on the hunt for a new one.  (Especially since I have a few do-it-yourselfers that I’ve been wanting to test out!)  Unfortunately, when I look for things, I hardly ever find them!  Luckily, thredUP had a large stash for to pick from!

I don’t know if I’ll test any diy ideas on this jacket though (I’m getting rather attached to it)…might have to go back to grab another one.

Knocked Up Fabulous

I’m sure that I’ll have this black maxi in my closet for a very long time.  It’s one of those classic pieces that can be “on trend” year after year.  In fact, I did wear this dress last Mother’s Day.  Back then I wore it with a denim jacket and gold accessories.  This time I have a denim vest, a colored bag, and floral wedges.  All it took was a few changes to update the look.

Speaking of updates, I’ve been thinking about the things that I share here on KUF.  Sometimes I mention things, then I never follow up!  I really don’t mean to do that!  So, to ease my mind (I’ve been in a cleaning-up/wrapping-up-loose-ends mood…), and if any of you are interested, here are a few follow-ups to things that I have mentioned…

1. A little over 5 months ago, my aunt was in a terrible accident.  She since has fully recovered.  The family is all so extremely happy to have witnessed such a miracle!

2.  I have found a gluten-free pancake recipe that my kids love!  It’s actually the recipe on the back of Pamela’s Baking & Pancake Mix.  It’s so good, that I don’t mind paying more than I normally would for pancakes…plus the mix makes some killer chocolate chip cookies, too!

3.  During my spring break I helped my sister clean out her closet, shop for missing pieces, and then put outfits together.  I posted about the first two parts, but I never got around to publishing what outfits we put together.  I wasn’t too thrilled with the picture quality…maybe we’ll reshoot something over the summer.

4.  I’ve been trying to style my hair as much as possible because I was planning on donating 10 inches of it after my sister’s wedding.  But…Locks of Love has been portrayed negativity in the news lately.  And…my sister isn’t getting married now…I’ll just keep my hair a little while longer until I get tired of it.

Wow…that was a lot of random babblings!  And with three day and 40 minutes left in the school year, that’s about how my mind is feeling at the moment!!

Busting out the Spring Fabrics

Knocked Up Fabulous

I finally had a chance to switch out my clothes bins!  Good bye, heavy sweaters…hello, spring fabrics!  This light-weight blouse always reminds me of spring.  The pretty colors and funky design just look like an abstract floral bouquet or something.

Besides for cleaning out my clothes, I started going through all these kids clothes that have over taken my laundry room and basement!  I think my next project is to sort out the clothes that are outgrown and take them to a place like Once Upon a Child to sell them.  Has anyone sold their children’s clothes before?  How painful is the process??

I know that I made smart purchases when I find myself wearing the same items (in different ways) over and over again.

This leather jacket, though fake, has gotten lots of use.  I love how it adds a little toughness to an outfit.

These boyfriend jeans (literally boyfriend…they’re from the men’s section) have also been in heavy rotation.  I was just wearing them the other day!

A fun pair of heels always works wonders!  Red has been my go-to color, but I can’t wait to get my hands on a pointy-toe, white pair.

These gold hoops are new to my arsenal of essentials.  Hoops never disappoint!  I was drawn to the textured design on these…a glamorous upgrade on a classic.

What have you been finding yourself wearing again and again recently?

Two Signs of Spring

Maybe some of you have been doing this for a while in your neck of the woods, but baring arms time is officially here for us!

How else do I know that it’s spring?  My kid is running around without pants on.  (Hmm…if I only dress him in tees, then I have less laundry to wash.  This is something to think about!)

4 Items to Buy for Yourself at the Children’s Department

I admit it.  I sometimes shop in the children’s section for clothes.  Besides for being cheaper than their adult counterparts, I also like how the fit can be.  These 4 items are top on my get-it-from-the-kid’s-section list:

Denim Jackets: I picked up this jacket a few year ago from the kid’s section at Target.  I like how its shorter on me than my usual denim jackets.  Gap kids is currently selling a cute white denim jacket for $34.95.  A similar jacket from the women’s department runs for double that at $69.95!

Blazers: Looking for the perfect shrunken blazer?  Head to the boy’s department.  During pregnancy I wore a boy’s navy blazer that I thrifted.  I love how the sleeves were shorter…I usually roll or push them up anyway.

White T-shirts:  Whenever I need some basic white t-shirts, I pick up a pack of Hanes xl’s from the kid’s section.  I mean, as quickly as white t-shirts last, you can’t beat the price!

Button Downs:  I buy men’s button downs to wear with skinny jeans, but on the flip side, boy’s button downs work much better tucked into pencil skirts or under sweaters.

Keep in mind that children’s clothes won’t be tailored the way that adult clothes are.  They tend to be a little boxier, but if you can pull it off (and find them in your size)…I say go for it!
