This is What Happens When I Run Out of Time

If there is one thing I can’t stand, it’s being late.  And recently the combination of too-much-to-do plus not-enough-time has been putting me on the verge of it.

Take this outfit for example.  By the time I had done everything that needed to get done, I had zero time for anything extra – like doing my hair.  Thank goodness for hats!  And thankfully we were just headed to my parents’.  (I did bring a few supplies to put up my hair once we got there though.)

How have you been feeling?  It’s just that time of the year, right?  At least things will be more enjoyable in a few weeks.  In the meantime, tis the season for hats!

I never thought I’d be so excited about the fall, but there are a few things that are putting a smile on my face these days!

This vintage space helmet t-shirt from Skip N’ Whistle is, by far, the softest shirt in my drawer!  (I snagged it from the men’s section of the site…shh!)  I’ve worn my fair share of graphic t-shirts around here.  I know this one has tons of styling potential!

This statement necklace from Accessory Mercado has been getting lots of use too!  I picked it up during an AM Wednesday Facebook sale.  (Those ladies come across so many cool pieces of jewelry!)  Good news for you…this month Knocked Up Fabulous readers can get a 15% discount an all the gorgeous stuff AM has to offer.  Just enter code kuf15!  (Code is only good for this month…get on it!)

And the last thing that’s putting a smile on my face…

I made it in Redbook’s October issue!!! Right there, on page 80.  (Next to the lovely Alyson from The Average Girl’s Guide!)  Yup…I’ve been on Cloud 9.

Wearing stretchy pants reminds me of when I was in junior high.  I loved wearing them with oversized t-shirts…and I’d even have those plastic t-shirt clips to get my shirt all bunched up on one side.  Oh, boy…having a major “I feel old” moment…

Before my mind goes elsewhere, the winner of the Before + Again item of choice goes to KIRA!!!  Kira, send me your email so we can get you your prize pronto.  (Sorry Kira, no plastic t-shirt clips come with the prize.)

Keeping It Balanced

Recently I read a magazine that said if you wear something masculine, counter it with two pieces that are more feminine.  And while this makes sense, I tend to do the reverse.  After putting on this white linen dress and floral wedges, I felt too girlie.  (And that sweet, girlie thing just isn’t for me.)  So, to balance it all out, I threw on a baseball hat.

Same difference, I guess.  What way do you lean towards…more masculine or feminine?

I’m usually not a fan of longer shorts (on me anyway!),  but Shana over at Ain’t No Mom’s Jeans does this little monthly series called How We Wear It…I decided to give them another round.

I like to wear my long short with nude shoes (bonus points for wedges!), that way my legs don’t look too stumpy!

Are you a fan of the long short?  How do you wear ‘em?

Blazer and a Sweater

I picked up a few “winter” blazers…ones that are slightly big, but fit nicely over sweaters.  Sometimes I just feel too casual in a sweater and jeans.  But when a blazer gets involved, there’s a whole new level of put-togetheredness going on.  Let me tell you friends, these days have been crazy.  So if I can feel pulled together with a blazer, I’m taking it.

Everyday Clothes

22 Oct 2012 Permalink

When I graduated college, I really started putting my “professional” wardrobe together…I had my work clothes, and I had my other clothes.  But as I got older, I realized that I wanted to look polished all the time…not just for work.  So I stopped buying t-shirts, and started buying tops that not only look good with jeans, but that could also be dressed up for a business causal look.  I need my clothes to function for work and for play.  This floral blouse (a recent thrifted find…it was a BIG score that day and I’ll be sharing the other pieces soon!) looks appropriate with jeans at the pumpkin farm.  And it will look equally great with dress pants or a pencil skirt and heels.

My two little pumpkins!

Oversized Button Down

28 Sep 2012 Permalink

One easy outfit that I’ve been repeating a lot has been an oversized button down with a pair of skinny jeans.  Worn with flats or a wedges, a light jacket or a scarf, this ensemble always works for me when I need to run out the door to the doctor’s office, grocery shopping, ballet class…

Super Bowl Sunday

06 Feb 2012 Permalink

Sundays are probably my favorite day of the week…sleeping in til 7:30 (for all you non-parents, waking up after your usual weekday time is considered sleeping in), goofing around with the kids, and dinner at my parents.  Yesterday’s dinner consisted of 4 different types of chili with all the proper toppings.  Dessert was just as tasty…mini brownie bites with peanut butter centers (of course my mom got the recipe from Pinterest!)

With all that food, I needed to wear something comfy but in darker colors to conceal any chili mess!  And as I assess what’s in my closet, these jeans will be exiting soon, too.  Might do a little diy project with them…don’t judge, but I saw one of my students in the cutest pair of printed jeans…tie dyed in shades of black and gray.  Hmmm…good idea or leave it for the kiddies??
