Getting Darker

I know lots of people having been getting excited for fall.  My sister just told me that she can’t wait to wear scarves and boots…and layers.  I’m always happy for a change, too.  When things are the same for too long, I get bored.  But this time of the year always gets me so down in the dumps!  I can’t stand the sun setting so early…and we haven’t even switched the clocks back yet!

That’s probably why I’ve been wearing sandals every chance I get!  Unless there’s a possibility of getting frostbite on my toes, I’m going to let these little guys enjoy the fall breeze!

Had I not been puttsing around on KUF, reminiscing about being pregnant, I probably would have forgotten that I had this skirt…the skirt that easily doubles as a top…yes, this top is actually a skirt.  Yay for versatile pieces of clothing!

And if you don’t have a blog showcasing daily outfits, I highly recommend doing something similar…even if it’s just using a camera phone.  Not only can you really tell what styles and cuts work for your silhouette, but you also grasp a better understanding of what’s in your closet.  And who wouldn’t want an archive of personalized outfits to help with those I-don’t-know-what-to-wear days?

Me and My Shadow

This has been my uniform as of late…sweater, jeans, boots, and a statement piece.  Added a belt since the old waist is beginning to make an appearance again (holidays didn’t help there)…and a little red lipstick never hurts either.

Have any fun plans for the weekend?  I’m planning on covering all my windows with those blackout shades so I can trick my daughter into catching some more z’s.  For some reason she insists on waking up as soon as the sun starts to shine…not on mama’s day off!

Bracelet D.I.Y.

I have a very hard time letting go of things, so instead of hoarding unused items, I’m trying to be more resourceful with them.  Here’s a diy for a bracelet I reworked using and old bangle, a thin belt (with the backing removed), and a glue gun.

I started by putting a dab of glue on the back of the bangle.  Then I wrapped the belt around it (pulling tightly) and placed a bit of glue at each point.  At the end, I put a final touch of glue…

And, voila, a “new” bracelet!  This little project was super quick (less than 10 mintues), and I didn’t have to go to the store for any supplies.  I love a fun “face lift” on old accessories!  Got any fun diy projects to share??

While looking for a top to accompany this striped skirt, I thought to myself, “Self, this is going to be sooo much easier when you can wear your regular clothes again…”  Wait…back it up…I can wear my regular tops…just not over the bump.

I did try to make a knot with this printed number at the bust line, but no such luck.  Instead I tucked the extra fabric underneath and used a belt to hold it in place.

I will be trying this again soon.  As for the heels, I think it’s time to bite the bullet and leave them in their boxes…

That’s a Wrap

I can’t take credit for this outfit. Completely.  Today was one of those I-don’t-know-what-to-wear days.  So I browsed through my “inspiration” files…saved pictures from magazines and online sources that really caught my attention.  Don’t remember exactly where this source came from, but it was something that I collected last summer.

A sarong as a dress?  Yes, please!  A belt helped keep the front from flapping open, and for additional censoring, I did wear a light skirt underneath.

Simple Pleasures

My husband thinks I’m a complicated person, but really it’s the simple things that make me happy…wearing a skirt as a dress (had to belt it, of course)…curling my hair sans heat (check it out here!)…taking a trip to Cosco to refill my Izze drink supply…watching the little one parade around all day as Cinderella, even while riding her trike…

Just Keep Swimming

With the summer baking us away in the Midwest (don’t believe me, read this) and contractions coming and going as they please, there are a few thoughts that are keeping me going (physically and mentally) until this package arrives…

  1. hearing his first cry
  2. holding his little body with my hands, rather than my womb
  3. seeing the tiny little feet that have been jabbing my rib cage
  4. counting his fingers and toes (gotta make sure that there’s 10 of each)
  5. watching my daughter’s face as she meets her brother for the first time
  6. adding another family member to Sunday dinners and holidays

And then of course there are a few (shallow??) other things that I’m looking forward to…

  1. enjoying a nice, cold adult summer beverage (haven’t had one of these since before Christmas!)
  2. wearing my regular clothes

So other mamas out there, what kept (or keeps) you going during those final weeks??

I did something I should not have done.  I opened the drawers of my dresser; the drawers that contain the non-maternity clothes that I refused to pack away.  As soon as I slid the first drawer open, I knew I shouldn’t have done it.  But then I continued to open the second one and glanced at its contents.  The items were so colorful and beautiful and seeing them, even for a short moment, made me really miss wearing them…

Thankfully, I can turn towards my accessories to assist in the color department.  My necklaces, belts, scarves, bracelets, earrings, bags and hats have been my saving grace (Oh, and nail polish, too!).  They have the powering ability to take a basic look and turn it into something more.

Over the weekend, the hubby and I took a little babymoon (think: honeymoon, but before the baby is born.)  Well, it was actually part babymoon, part anniversary getaway…  I guess I should have been smiling in these photos, but after 6 years of marriage with a total of 11 years together, I wanted a vacation from him too, not just from changing diapers.  (Is that wrong to say?)

Either way, it was a much needed break.  And I’ll take any excuse to dress up a little!
