Balance and Simplicity

Balance and simplicity are two words that I’ve been incorporating into my everyday life.

Both in the classroom and at home, I’m working on showing my students and my two minis that there is a time for work, and a time for play. I guess you can say it’s the whole “work hard, play hard” mentality, but really it’s just common sense.

If you don’t balance out your life between work and play, you will begin to find yourself stressed out. It’s not healthy for your body to just focus on one of the two. There has to be an equilibrium.

Simplicity comes into play – for me at least – during times of stress or chaos. It’s calming to stop, take a step back, focus on just what’s important at the moment, and continue on from there.

Balance and simplicity are words that have also been describing my style recently. Take this outfit, for example. I love a great chunky sweater…but it can truly look overwhelming my petite 5’3″ frame. That’s when a simple – but adorable – layered necklace comes into play. This new arrival from Karine Sultan brings the right amount of balance to my fall outfit. And provides that little glam factor that I always look for.

Weekend Heat Wave

12 Nov 2012 Permalink

This weekend was great!  A heat wave came through the area.  (Upper 60s in November…yes, please!)  Even though the temps are already back down 30 degrees, having a chance to take the kids to the park and get a little fresh air will keep me warm until next weekend.  We all live for weekends, don’t we?

Picture Day

Yesterday was picture day at school.  I still hated it as much as I did when I was a kid.  (The worst part being the day that the picture orders got passed out! Ugh!)  The only good thing about being a teacher on picture day is that the photographer didn’t mind me looking at my shot.  And then doing a retake.  Three times.

Best Shoe Purchase

Right at the beginning of fall, I began stalking these ankle boots from Gap.  I’m so glad that I bought them!  They have been worn with nearly everything from jeans to skirts.  As the weather warms up, I’m sure I’ll continue to wear them until my feet are sandal ready.  Not only are they a great color, but they are also comfortable enough to wear all day.

Here’s other ways I’ve worn them…

What shoe purchases have you been thankful for?  Got any must haves for spring and summer??
