When I talk to non-thrifters about the amazing things that I have found while thrifting, they’re usually pretty impressed. I’m impressed too when I think about it. Diane von Furstenberg, Valentino, Calvin Klein – not to mention a bunch of high-quality vintage pieces – have all made their ways to my closest from thrifting.
Thrifting itself can be a bit overwhelming, but here’s a few tips to help you find those amazing pieces…like this black jacket I’m wearing:
1. Feel the fabric. It’s very easy to tell the quality of the material by feeling it.
2. Check the lining. Top brands don’t cut corners. They fully line their skirts, dresses, and jackets – when appropriate of course.
3. Look at the details. Buttons, zippers, and other closures can add to the cost of making a garment…this is where many retailers cut corners. High-quality clothing means high-quality details.
