5 Ways to Pamper Yourself Without Going to the Spa
I enjoy going to the spa, but seriously, let’s be real…I don’t always have the money, and I definitely don’t have the time. My solution? Incorporate minor bits of spa-like treats to my daily life at home.
Anti-Aging Face Serum – I had never really thought about wrinkles until after my 30th birthday. I laugh because it seemed that right after I turned the big 3-0, wrinkles started to show…go figure! Michael Todd True Organics asked if I’d like to try their Anti-Aging Face Lift Serum, Knu to You. I was totally skeptical. I did say yes though and started using the serum around my mouth lines. You know what happened? The bottom of my face looked fresh and young, while my forehead seemed all wrinkled out. Now I just apply a thin layer after moisturizing…twice a day. And I’m back to looking like I did in my 20′s…I even got carded at the grocery store yesterday! (Side note: this serum has also helped me clear up random pimples better and faster than my go-to tea tree oil!)
If the price tag scares you, you have to remember that you really do get what you pay for. Plus, some people spend that amount alone on one spa treatment…this bottle will last you a while. (I’ve been using it for 5 weeks and look at all that I still have left!)
Satin Pillow Case – I’ve always heard that satin pillow cases are great for protecting your hair (or preserving a hairstyle) and for helping prevent wrinkles (here we go with the wrinkle thing again!) I was really excited when Savvy Sleepers sent me a satin pillow case to try out. The case itself is soft and feels so nice to snuggle up with after a long day of crazy. But one of my favorite parts about the pillow case is the hidden pocket! Do you know how many times I forget a hair tie or need some chapstick right as I lay down to sleep? Now I don’t have to worry…I just tuck my little necessities into the pocket and it’s all good.
Eucalyptus – When I saw this pin of eucalyptus hanging in a shower, I wanted to try it out for the health benefits…mostly to benefit my asthmatic kids. My husband, who passed along all his wonderful allergies and breathing problems to our two, said that the eucalyptus in the steamy shower has really helped clear his sinuses in the morning. I haven’t noticed a difference with the kids, but Julia says she loves the smell and I completely agree!
Infused Water – At the beginning of the summer, I took a trip with my sisters to St. Croix. Every morning in the lobby, there would be a large batch of infused water. Even though it was just water, by adding the little slices of fruit and mint leaves, I thought I was sipping on tropical happiness. Don’t get me wrong…I love a tall glass of ice water, but when you factor in fresh produce and herbs, it brings it to a whole ‘notha level.
Chocolate – This last way to pamper yourself really goes without saying. Chocolate is just one of those things that satisfies us. If I am going to eat chocolate, with all its tasty calories, then I make sure that the chocolate is worth it! Don’t give me the cheap stuff…I want flavorful. My cousin introduced me to this brand, Enjoy Life. They make products that are free of the 8 common allergens…including gluten. So when I saw that they came out with a chocolate bar, I knew I had to get a few to keep in the house. I love to break off a piece of chocolate at the end of the day, and let it just melt in my mouth.
When I’m busy at work, or shipping the kids between appointments, I can feel myself slowing burning out. But when I take the time to pamper myself in small ways, it gives me the energy and motivation to keep going.
