How to Wear a Floral Belt

August 4, 2012

Sometimes during a thrift trip I run out of time before I get a chance to look at accessories.  When I say run out of time, I really mean that I ran out of snacks…feeding my children with (mostly…ok, partially) healthy treats is really the only way I get to shop.  Anyway, during my last trip I opted to skip over the clothing and instead headed straight for the fun stuff.  I ended up landing a pair of danglely earrings, a cute structured leather bag in a dark brown color, a black over-sized leather clutch, a thin gray belt, a leather gray belt with a metal buckle (it’s an 80s flashback for my minor obsession), and this fun floral waist accessory.

And since I have a rule of three (need to make 3 outfits incorporating the piece) I proceeded to have a little dress-up fun when I got home…

A printed belt may seem a little scary at first, but when in doubt a black dress can almost always save the day.  To keep things from looking too dark, I matched my bag to one of the colors on the belt.

A solid print dress can be a step towards a more playful territory.  I kept the accessories simple and picked a periwinkle shoe since it’s analogous to purple.  (Yes, the dress is purple.)

And for a trendier vibe, florals and stripes are a perfect pair.  I like that the double-chain necklace and red clutch toughen up the look a little.

Gosh I love playing dress-up!  Would you wear this belt?  How would you wear it??
