Project DIY

July 15, 2012

Remember those art classes from back in grade school?  The ones where your teacher set out a bunch of supplies and everyone created a project…you’d use the same materials, yet each person’s outcome would be completely different.

I like those kinds of projects.  (Probably why I have a slight obsession with T.V. shows that follow the same concept!)  And I think it’s time to have a little fun…

Each month on the 15th (like today) I’ll be posting a DIY project centered around a common theme.  If you’d like to participate (and I hope you do!), you’ll have until two days before the end of the month to do your DIY and send me a side-by-side picture showing the “before” and “after” of your masterpiece.  I’ll put together the side-by-side images, linking them back to your site (where you’ll have a post explaining the how-to’s for your project) and post it on the last day of the month.  Still with me??

The first Project DIY is centered around DENIM.  Looking to finally make those cut-offs?  Want to hack off the sleeves from your jean jacket?  Thinking about bleaching your denim vest and adding some studs to it?  Now’s your chance!  Anything related to denim is totally game!

And for those looking for a little inspiration…here’s a few fun links for you:

See how the Glamouri creates her cut-offs.

A Beautiful Mess shows 5 ways to DIY summer shorts.

B. Jones did a fabulous job distressing jeans.

I had a fun time with an old pair of Gap jeans.

Pinterest can be a great source too!

Just a few more things to note…if you find yourself repeating someone elses DIY, that’s totally ok…just site them to give them credit.  Also, please don’t feel like you need to go out  and buy something for your project.  I try to keep the DIY’s around here resourceful…use what you have already in your closet!

I hope you’re as excited about this as I am!  If you’re going to work on a project, remember to send me your picture by Sunday, July 29th and everyone’s project will be showcased on Tuesday, July 31.  Happy DIYing!!!
